Thanks to funds received from the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority, Housing Opportunities offers permanent, affordable rentals in Portage, Valparaiso, and Michigan City, Indiana. Program Eligibility Requirements - To qualify for the program, applicants must have an annual household income at or below 60% of the area median income. For a family of two, this means an income below $30,180.00. Rents and Responsibilities - Tenants are responsible for rent and electric costs, while Housing Opportunities covers water, sewer, and trash pick-up. Housing for the Homeless: Empowering Individuals and Families - Housing Opportunities has developed housing programs specifically designed to support individuals and families who are ready to transition from inhabitable conditions. Our housing for the homeless programs offer affordable and secure apartments, empowering individuals and families to overcome homelessness. Temporary Housing Program: A Step Towards Stability - The Temporary Housing Program provides 16 units in Valparaiso, where individuals and families can reside for 30-120 days. This program not only offers a safe haven but also provides customized support services to address specific family needs. Permanent Housing Program: Building a Better Future - Our Permanent Housing Program offers units in Portage and Michigan City, providing affordable options for individuals and families as they seek to improve their lives. Participants have access to budgeting and credit repair classes, designed to meet their specific needs. This program allows individuals and families to celebrate holidays in the comfort of their own homes, and children to have a safe and friendly environment to play and socialize. To qualify for this program, individuals and families must be current residents of Porter or LaPorte County. Support Services and Training for Self-Reliance - All of our programs include case management services aimed at supporting individuals and families in their journey towards self-reliance. Additionally, we offer job preparation skills and training, money management training, self-help programs, support groups, individualized support services, and treatment programs when necessary.
